LPN-RN ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The LPN to RN program is for students who have already obtained their LPN licensure. LPN students will join the traditional AASN program in its 3rd eight-week term to complete the remaining courses of the curriculum. The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program is full time and a hybrid (mix of online and in-person) program that prepares students to be a registered nurse. Students are typically in class, clinical, or lab 3-4 days a week Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM. Length of program: 6 eight-week terms, 1.25 years

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

  • Online application & $75 non-refundable application fee (paid online after submission.

  • A copy of valid unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia (uploaded to online application after application submission).

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or higher or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

  • Prerequisites/general education requirements  a “C” grade or better in the required courses and a prerequisite coursework GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Official transcripts from ALL schools attended, including high school or GED.

    • Foreign high school or college transcripts: Please request a credited evaluation of your transcripts. You can search this website for options: https://naces.org/

  • Additional course credit: if you took Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE) or International Baccalaureate (IB), we must receive an official transcript from the appropriate host in addition to your high school transcript.

  • If sending your transcripts electronically, please have them sent to Admissions@bshsi.org.

  • Any applicant who has previously enrolled in or is currently enrolled in a nursing program is required to respond to an essay explaining prior circumstances and may be asked to provide a professional letter of recommendation.

  • Applicants who are not a U.S. citizen by birth must provide immigration or citizenship documentation. The school does not participate in the SEVIS program.

GUARANTEED ADMISSION

Applicants with a bachelor's degree from an approved VA college (listed below), or with an associate degree from Richard Bland College or any Virginia Community College part of the VCCS and a 2.5 GPA and a "B" in the required prerequisite courses will have guaranteed admission based on space availability.

Admission decisions are communicated via email 4-5 weeks following the application deadline.
